The Tech Interactive

The Tech Interactive features everything in science and technology with hands-on activities, labs, and design challenges. If you want to spend your day in the world of interaction, this museum-style setup is your calling.

The Tech Interactive is located in a vibrant mango and azure coloured three-story building designed by the Mexican architect Ricardo Legoretta. The lower level has a complex three floor sculpture titled ‘Origin,’ that is nestled within a cylindrical tower that stands at a height of 45 feet. This sculpture is an interpretation of the amalgamation of art, technology, and the Earth’s natural resources. You will even see inscriptions on the front wall that display words of wisdom by iconic Silicon Valley entrepreneurs.

What can you expect at the Tech Interactive?

The world’s first dome laser projector is located here and has a capacity to seat up to 280 people. The theater was opened in 1998 and has been worked on and upgraded since. The dome features mainstream movies and educational films.

Many exhibits in the space are created keeping in mind a hands-on experience. A social robots exhibit allows you to build and design robots using sensors, controllers, and actuators. The Space exploration exhibit includes a maneuverable Jet Pack chair that can help you learn how to attach a satellite. Another fascinating exhibit, the Body Motion allows you to observe how your movement and interaction affect your physical, social, and emotional wellbeing.

Other exhibits showcase the innovation processes previously used to solve problems. These are in the space of healthcare, technology, bio design, and cyberspace.

Past exhibits played with the ideas of an imagination playground, silicon workshop, idea houses, a Tech Awards gallery, music exhibits, and body metrics.

The Tech decided to start a traveling exhibit for which they even rented out Parkside Hall in the past. In 2007, it showcased the Body Worlds 2 exhibit, which displayed dissections of anatomical structures that have been preserved through plastination. This expo had a footfall of 280,000 guests. They have even hosted special expos like the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit and a Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination one.

What programs does the Tech Interactive provide?

The Tech Interactive provides numerous programs that aim to educate students in a hands-on manner.

The Tech for Global Good

This program was created to inspire students and young generations to solve large-scale problems. It was highly inspired by the Oscars of Silicon Valley, which recognizes organizations and individuals for their contributions to improving living conditions for the human race.

Tech for Global Good focuses on a different theme every year and honors various organizations as its laureates for the year. It focuses on their problem-solving skills through educational material such as lesson plans and videos.

The Tech Challenge

This is a design challenge designed for young school-going students. More than 25,000 students have participated in the program since 1988. Students have been using engineering design processes to solve real-world problems. Amongst other challenges, students have been asked to design and build hovercrafts, structures to withstand earthquakes, and devices to deliver water.

The Tech Academies

The Tech Academies program was launched to provide professional development to educators and teachers. It aims to encourage them to integrate a high-quality STEM curriculum in their classrooms in Silicon Valley. It’s put forth as a two-year fellowship program with a focus on computer science and engineering.

The Tech also offers in-person as well as virtual field trips to school groups every year. This includes science and innovation labs along with educational IMAX films. It gives students a peek into the world of science and technology and affords them the opportunity to use real-life skills and problem-solving to design and create multimedia experiences.
